Vehicle Explodes in Early-Morning Fire Near Lafayette Middle School

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — An early-morning vehicle fire on St. Joseph’s north side reportedly ended with an explosion near Independence Avenue Saturday.
According to a nearby resident, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 22 near the Lafayette Middle School football field. The resident said she heard a large explosion coming from the area.
The St. Joseph Police Department currently does not believe the vehicle fire was intentionally caused by another person. The St. Joseph Fire Department is investigating to determine what sparked the fire.
