Attorney seeks venue change in murder case against Nodaway County man

A Skidmore, Missouri, man charged with two counts of first-degree murder is seeking to have his case moved to another county.

Court records show that an attorney for Keevin Maupin filed a motion requesting a change of venue under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 32.03.

The rule allows criminal defendants in counties with populations of 75,000 or fewer to request a change of venue as a matter of right.

The motion cites the amount of public attention and media coverage surrounding the case in Nodaway County. It also states that Maupin’s longstanding ties to the area could make it difficult to find impartial jurors, as potential jury members may know Maupin, his family or details about the allegations.

Maupin faces two felony counts of first-degree murder and two felony counts of armed criminal action in connection with an April 19 incident north of Skidmore.
