St. Joseph City Council to Consider Nearly $500,000 in Park and Downtown Project Changes

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The St. Joseph City Council is preparing to vote on several projects involving Krug Park and downtown St. Joseph, including nearly $400,000 in repairs to the Krug Park waterfall.

Council members are scheduled to consider an amendment to the parks sales tax budget along with a construction change order for repairs to the aging waterfall at Krug Park.

City documents cited by KQ2 say the waterfall has deteriorated and requires extensive work.

The proposed $392,217 project includes repairs to the stone waterfall face and masonry, along with landscaping, excavation, piping and concrete work.

Council members will also consider additional money for renovations at Felix Street Square.

A proposed change order with Herner Construction would add $14,414.59 to the project and amend the park sales tax budget to approximately $51,067.

City officials say concrete behind the Felix Street Square stage does not meet ADA requirements and needs to be removed and replaced.

Another vote involves additional demolition work at the Fourth and Felix Street parking garage.

The city is considering a $92,452.73 change order with Madget Demolition for additional work at the structure.

Plans include installing Jersey barriers topped with fencing where ramps to the garage's removed upper level once stood.

Additional saw cutting, cleanup of existing columns and removal of another vehicle exit ramp are also planned before the garage reopens.

The council is also expected to vote on canceling its Sept. 14 meeting because several council members and city employees plan to attend the Missouri Municipal League Conference.
