St. Joseph’s Noah Cameron Tosses First Career Complete-Game Shutout in Royals’ 3-0 Win

St. Joseph’s own Noah Cameron delivered the best start of his Major League career Sunday afternoon, throwing a complete-game, one-hit shutout as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Los Angeles Angels.

The Central High School graduate was nearly untouchable from the opening pitch, carrying a perfect game through five innings and a no-hitter into the seventh. Cameron eventually allowed just one hit and one walk over all nine innings while striking out eight and throwing 115 pitches.

It marked the first complete game and first complete-game shutout of Cameron’s Major League career — and he came remarkably close to something even bigger.

Cameron retired the first 15 Angels he faced before Oswald Peraza drew a leadoff walk in the sixth inning. The no-hit bid remained intact until the seventh, when Vaughn Grissom dropped a bloop single into shallow left-center field with one out. It would be the only hit Los Angeles managed all afternoon.

From there, Cameron slammed the door.

He worked through the remainder of the game without allowing another hit and finished the afternoon by striking out three-time American League MVP Mike Trout to seal the 3-0 victory.

Royals Give Cameron Just Enough Support

Kansas City’s offense provided all the run support Cameron would need.

Michael Massey opened the scoring in the fourth inning with his 11th home run of the season, a 384-foot shot into the right-field seats. Bobby Witt Jr. followed with a solo homer of his own in the fifth to give Kansas City a 2-0 advantage.

The Royals added their third run in the seventh. John Rave reached on an error, advanced on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt, then scored on an RBI infield single from Carter Jensen.

That was more than enough for Cameron.

The win moved the left-hander to 7-8 on the season and gave Kansas City the series victory over Los Angeles. It was also the Royals’ first road series win since taking a series in Minnesota in early June.

Another Huge Moment for a St. Joseph Native

For people back home, Cameron’s performance carries a little more meaning.

The 27-year-old was born and raised in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School in 2018. He still resides in St. Joseph, roughly an hour north of Kauffman Stadium, while pitching for the Major League team he grew up watching.

Cameron has made a point of representing his hometown throughout his career. During MLB Players’ Weekend this season, he even wore custom cleats honoring Central High School, where he was a three-time first-team All-Conference pitcher and competed in four sports.

Sunday gave St. Joseph another reason to rally behind him.

9 innings. Eight strikeouts. One hit. No runs.

And for the first time in his Major League career, Noah Cameron walked off the mound having finished every inning himself.

From Central High School to a complete-game shutout in the Major Leagues, the St. Joseph native continues to give his hometown plenty to be proud of.
