Traffic Changes Coming to St. Joseph Avenue Near Robidoux Elementary Beginning Monday

Drivers traveling along U.S. Highway 59 (St. Joseph Avenue) should prepare for temporary traffic changes beginning Monday as the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) starts work to improve traffic flow near Robidoux Elementary School.

The project will modify three existing crossovers along St. Joseph Avenue to help reduce congestion and improve safety during the school's busy morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.

As part of the improvements, crews will:

Permanently close the crossover directly across from Robidoux Elementary's main entrance.
Close the next crossover just north of the school.
Install "No U-Turn" signs at the intersection of Cook Road to discourage turning movements that can create traffic backups and safety concerns.

According to MoDOT, the changes were developed in coordination with the St. Joseph School District and the City of St. Joseph as part of a broader effort to make travel through the area safer and more efficient for students, parents, school buses, and other motorists.

Expect Delays This Week

Construction is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, and drivers should expect temporary lane reductions on St. Joseph Avenue while crews complete the work. Traffic may be reduced to a single lane in the work zone, so motorists are encouraged to slow down, watch for workers, and allow extra travel time.

Parents picking up or dropping off students at Robidoux Elementary should also be prepared for changes to their normal driving routes once the crossover closures are in place.

MoDOT reminds all drivers to use caution in school zones and follow posted traffic signs as the new traffic pattern takes effect.
